“The infection was a consequence of treatment for prostate cancer that the Archbishop has received over the past 18 years,” his daughter Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said in a statement.
“The cancer, itself, was well under control.”
Tutu, 83, celebrated Eucharist with his daughter in his ward on Tuesday, and received a visit from Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, before being discharged.
“He shared with Dr Motsoaledi his concern that, while he had enjoyed first-class treatment and the attention of the finest doctors, most South Africans did not have access to decent health care,” according to his Foundation.

Tutu then pronounced himself 100% behind the proposed introduction of National Health Insurance NHI in the country.
His daughter once again expressed her family’s “deep gratitude for the love, concern and prayers of so many people across South Africa and around the world”.
Recently, Tutu and his wife Leah, 82 celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows.
