Drugs seized in raid at Brakpan beauty parlour

The owner of a nail and hair salon has been arrested after making money on the side in the form of illicit substances.


The 28-year-old owner of a hair and nail salon in the Brakpan CBD was arrested on Thursday morning on charges of possession and dealing in illicit substances, reports Brakpan Herald.

The man was arrested by Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Drug Enforcement Unit members, who acted on a tip-off.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said: “After a couple of hours of monitoring the kind of customers walking in and out of the business, metro police officers pounced and a search of the place revealed six ziplock bags of crystal methamphetamine, five of khat and dagga weighing 734.8 grams.

“The overall street value of the drugs seized amounts to R5,200.”

The salon owner was detained at the Brakpan Police Station and is expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon.
