Courier drivers locked in vehicle after being robbed

One of the drivers said the suspects went for very specific parcels and were not interested in the other packages in the van.

Two robbers in a white bakkie pulled in behind a RAM courier vehicle in a driveway in Dam Drive in Ifafi, Hartebeespoort around 11.30am, surprising two courier drivers and an employee at a business who was receiving a parcel.

“At first I thought it was another courier company, but then I saw the balaclava and I knew,” the employee told Kormorant.

The employee managed to run down the street, but the two drivers were confronted by the robbers.

“One was wearing a balaclava and they ordered us to get into the back of the vehicle and hand over cell phones,” one of the drivers said.

“They were not interested in any other parcels and seemed to know which parcels contained cell phones. After taking the parcels, they locked us in the back of the vehicle and drove away.”

The employee, who had meanwhile tried to find help, saw the robbers fleeing and returned to free the courier drivers.

“I was running down the road calling for help but no one came out of their houses,” he said.

The police were alerted and were on the scene soon after. Investigations are currently underway.
