South African businessman Justin van Pletzen had an encounter with Ajay Gupta on Wednesday morning at an office block in Dubai at about 08:00 local time (10:00 in Dubai), according to a HuffPost report.
Acting Hawks head Yolisa Matakata announced in February a warrant of arrest for Gupta had been issued related to corruption.
Van Pletzen asked a cool and relaxed Ajay when he would return to South Africa to answer to state capture allegations, and he said he would cooperate with law enforcement agencies once they “give him a reply”.
“They’re not giving a reply. The day they give a reply, I’ll go there,” he said.
Gupta was apparently visiting the Indian Consulate in the building. The Gupta brothers are in trouble with Indian tax authorities after they failed to appear before the income tax department late last month to answer to allegations of money-laundering. They were given until April 2 to present themselves to authorities.
Van Pletzen said if it weren’t for the law in Dubai, he would have “dropped” Gupta. He left in a Maybach S600, which is said to cost in the region of $190 000 (about R2 250 000).
