WATCH: Mob catches chancer, demands phone he allegedly snatched
A young man had nowhere to run when an angry mob caught him and demanded a cellphone he allegedly took in a mugging.
In the video, a young man seems to be in trouble with the mob that wants to punish him before handing him to the police.
The man appears to be conceding to the group’s demands, but things escalate when another man arrives to assault the alleged mugger.
The group appears to be squabbling over a phone, which the young man says he left somewhere.
Someone among the witnesses can be heard saying: “Don’t hit him. He must be arrested and taken to the police station. Don’t assault him.”

The video follows another ruthless mugging in Johannesburg CBD this week, where a gang is seen going after a man and woman to rob them.
The couple was attacked from behind on the corner of Main and Mooi streets. The four assailants went after the man and woman, grabbing her while she appears to be negotiating with the men for her belongings.
Her male companion, however, looks as if he wants to fight back. The four men respond by brazenly demanding his belongings.
