Bloem’s Tempe Airport confirms light plane crash

The airport has acknowledged that an incident occurred on their landing strip on Saturday afternoon.

The safety and quality manager at the Westline Aviation, Thomas Honiball, confirmed an aircraft crashed at Bloemfontein’s Tempe Airport, he told OFM News. Honiball said he had attended to the matter.

Honiball said the person involved in the accident was a PTL pilot who rented a private plane from the Tempe Airport.

Honiball explained the woman took two of her friends for a scenic flight, but overshot the runway when she attempted to land the plane.

He confirmed that no injuries were reported, but that the aircraft had sustained some damage.

OFM News earlier reported that, according to a source, a woman without her pilot’s licence crashed on the Tempe airport outside Bloemfontein.

The source told OFM News the wheel of the plane came loose during the landing, after which the plane crashed as it hit the ground. Emergency medical services arrived promptly on the scene.
