PICS: Tamaryn Green is your new Miss SA

For the first time, the pageant crowned two women to compete at Miss World and Miss Universe, respectively.

Tamaryn Green, a 23-year-old medical student from Paarl, Western Cape, was crowned Miss South Africa at Times Square in Pretoria on Sunday night.

The year 2018 celebrates the pageant’s 60th anniversary Diamond Jubilee.

Green will receive R3 million in prizes in one of the richest pageants in the world. She will also be representing South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant at the end of the year.

Runner up was 26-year-old B Comm graduate Thulisa Keyi from East London who took the title Miss World South Africa and who will represent South Africa on the global stage in this competition later this year. She will receive nearly R600,000 in prizes.

This is the first year that the contest will have two “winners”; the primary one goes on to compete at Miss Universe, and the runner-up crown holder competes at Miss World.

Green, however, is the only recognised reigning Miss SA.

The winner impressed that well-known commentator on beautiful women, the ANC’s Fikile Mbalula.
