WATCH: Reshuffles happen at night – Mbalula

Mbalula was part of a panel to announce the friendly match between Barcelona and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The ANC’s election head Fikile Mbalula raised a few eyebrows when he attended and was part of the panel to announce the friendly match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Barcelona FC during a press briefing at the Convention Centre on Thursday.

The announcement for the much-awaited friendly between Sundowns and Barcelona was announced by Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe.

Among the panel were top figures in government and in football.

Sports Minister Thokozile Xasa, Minister of Energy Jeff Radebe, Mbalula, former Gauteng MEC Tokyo Sexwale, South African Football Association (Safa) Danny Jordaan, Safa CEO Dennis Mumble and La Liga president Javier Tebas.

The Motsepe Foundation is partnering with the Inter-Ministerial Committee of the South African government, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Safa and La Liga to bring Barcelona to South African shores.

Mbalula addressing the media said they should not be concerned at seeing him seated among the panel. “When you saw me here you thought there is a reshuffle … [assuming] it happened last night … because they always happened at night.”

He redirected the reshuffle joke at Tokyo Sexwale, who he said had been also reshuffled.

Ending his charismatic address, Mbalula said he looked forward to a razzmatazz on the upcoming game.

He later took to Twitter and said people would get to meet their legends next Wednesday.
