Lion that mauled park owner was shot during the attack

The park owner is currently in hospital after sustaining neck and jaw injuries.

Shamba, the lion that attacked and mauled British game park owner Mike Hodge, 67, on Monday was shot dead during the attack.

In the distressing footage of the attack, Shamba sees Hodge after he enters its enclosure and chases him towards the gate. Hodge, the owner of the park that was Shamba’s home, then gets dragged towards the bushes while onlookers scream and look on in despair.

Hodge is currently in hospital after sustaining neck and jaw injuries and News24 reports that the park owner is still traumatised.

The publication quoted a family spokesperson saying that Hodge was upset about losing Shamba, and the family had owned the lion for 10 years.
