Fugitive Gupta brother left SA 10 days ago

Ajay Gupta is understood to have left the country aboard a Dubai bound flight 10 days ago.

Officials at OR Tambo International Airport are reportedly working with the Hawks to determine Ajay Gupta’s whereabouts who is now considered a fugitive.

The search for oldest of the Gupta brothers was initiated by the Hawks when he did not appear at Bloemfontein Regional Court yesterday. Ajay was meant to appear in court allegedly in connection with the recent arrests of those implicated in the R220 million Estina dairy farm fraud and corruption case.

According to EWN, the airport’s records show that Ajay left the country aboard a Dubai bound flight 10 days ago. The airport will hand over footage of the Gupta brother leaving the country, as well as other information relating to his flight.

On Thursday, Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed that Ajay was being sought. He said the Hawks’ investigating unit contacted Gupta’s lawyers on Wednesday but they had not responded by Thursday.

Mulaudzi also confirmed that a warrant for Ajay’s arrest had been issued. He further sent a plea to the now fugitive Gupta brother to hand himself over to police.
