Makhosi Khoza: Let’s ‘severely punish’ the ANC
The former ANC member has criticised the ruling party's presidential candidates for only speaking out on corruption now after years of silence.
Former ANC member Makhosi Khoza delivered a speech at Daily Maverick’s The Gathering on Thursday, in Sandton, Johannesburg, and had a few harsh words to say about the ruling party and President Jacob Zuma.
Khoza said she was done complaining about the ANC and had started looking beyond the party’s December conference to find solutions that would contribute towards building a better South Africa.
“We have been under the ANC’s devilish spell of indecisive leadership that thrives on deceit, corrupt deals and complete absence of courage.
“The ANC collective leadership subjected South Africans to the harshest 10-year season of corruption, crime, self-enrichment and complete absence of servitude and placing our people first, and like weed and pollutants their shallow culture spread to uncontrollable levels,” she said.
She urged South Africans to look back to 1995 for inspiration to work towards building the country. She highlighted events such as the Springboks winning the World Cup and when Bafana Bafana was still winning games, calling those times “Madiba Magic”.
But, according to her, the current ANC leader collective hated those moments and soon “destroyed” the spirit of Madiba and buried it with him in 2013.
“Let us severely punish the ANC for betraying our Madiba Magic,” she said.
Khoza further criticised those running for ANC presidency, saying they were no better than Zuma, as they had only started speaking out on corruption now that they were in the race.
“As ministers, deputy ministers, deputy presidents, treasurer-general and NEC members what did they do when their own members who chose to break rank with directionless directives were persecuted?
“What did they do since 2007 as members of the slate of the current President JG Zuma. We must tell them that they are as guilty as JG Zuma. If at all they ever had any moral compass they have destroyed and sold it to the devil,” she asked.
She said South Africans should stand up against disunity and refuse to be lied to.
