ANC members remain loyal to their party despite ongoing challenges – study

Research by Markdata and African Response has found that ANC members do not trust opposition parties.

With less than three months left until the ANC heads to its much-anticipated national conference in December, a study of the governing party’s members has found that they are very concerned with issues such as service delivery, party leadership and corruption.

However, none of them would be willing to abandon the ANC anytime soon, eNCA reported.

According to the study conducted by Markdata and African Response, ANC members cited a deep distrust of other opposition parties as reasons they could not imagine voting for any other party than the ANC.

Sixteen focus groups made up of ANC supporters in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and Gauteng were polled, and researchers found that they had a deep sense of loyalty to the ANC, which has governed the country since the dawn of democracy in 1994.

Markdata and African Response interviewed a diverse group of 5 000 party members in all provinces.
