Mkhwebane colluded with Presidency, state security on her Bankorp report – Sarb

The public protector has been accused of meeting with advisers from the Presidency 12 days before the final report was released.

Public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has been accused by the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) of conspiring with the Presidency and the State Security Agency to attack and undermine the authority of the central bank.

EWN reports that details of the allegations are contained in a new affidavit filed by the Sarb on Monday.

The affidavit reportedly reveals that Mkhwebane met with the two parties to discuss amending the Reserve Bank’s constitutional mandate just weeks before she released her Bankorp report in June.

In her report, Mkhwebane wanted the Sarb’s mandate to be changed to include citizens’ socioeconomic rights. However, the remedial action to amend the constitution was set aside by the North Gauteng High Court in August.
