Flood warning for coastal parts of Eden District

There is an 80% to 100% chance for rain.

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a watch for flooding expected in places over the eastern parts of the Eden District coastal areas on Friday evening and into Saturday morning, reports the George Herald.

According to Saws, the weather situation has changed over the past 24 hours from what was stipulated in the outlook on Monday.

“Models suggest a large amount of rainfall along the south coast of Eden District on Friday into Saturday morning, where heavy downpours of 30mm in three to six hours are possible. This may have some impacts in these areas,” said on-duty weather forecaster Michael Barnes.

There is an 80% to 100% chance for rain.

According to Wouter Jacobs from the Eden Disaster Management Centre, the disaster managers of all the towns in the area have been informed and have begun with contingency planning.

“Furthermore, in preparation of possible flooding, a channel is being dug in the Great Brak River mouth. At the Touw River and Swart Vlei mouths this was already done last week.”
