Oscar rushed to hospital after suspected ‘heart attack’
However, he did not spend long at the facility and was discharged within hours.
Disgraced Paralympic blade runner and convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius was rushed to Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria on Thursday morning after he reportedly suffered from chest pains.
Initial reports were that personnel at the Atteridgeville Prison thought he had suffered a heart attack.
Pistorius is serving a six-year prison sentence for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
He fired four shots at Steenkamp through the bathroom door at his former house in the Silver Lakes Estate.
Pistorius was brought into hospital by armed guards at about 8am.
His family spokesperson Johan van Wyk said Pistorius was “okay”. He said he could not give any further comment before he discussed the matter with Pistorius’ uncle Arnold Pistorius.
Further information received was that Pistorius was treated by medical personnel at the hospital’s prison ward and discharged at around 2pm.
Singabakho Nxumalo of correctional services said: “We can state that offender Oscar Pistorius was taken to an outside hospital facility this morning for a medical examination, and is expected back in the facility later today.
“I cannot confirm that he suffered chest pains.”
Last year in August, Pistorius was rushed to same hospital after sustaining injuries to his wrists in jail.
At the time, Nxumalo said the Paralympian told authorities he had injured himself after falling out of bed.
But an inmate situated close to the hospital section told City Press that Pistorius had injured himself intentionally.
Pistorius was transferred from the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison to the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre last year as the facility was better equipped to accommodate him, Nxumalo said.
