Guard assaulted by men armed with rifles in Durban mall robbery

No arrests have been made, but a case of armed robbery has been opened at the Westville SAPS.

Two men, armed with rifles, assaulted one of the security guards while he was depositing cash into an ATM at the Pavilion Shopping Centre on Tuesday morning, reports the Highway Mail.

According to the KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, the incident occurred at about 11am.

Mbhele noted the two armed men assaulted one of the guards and fled with cash.

“Suspects allegedly shot at the tyres of the security guard’s vehicle while fleeing,” said Mbhele.

A case of armed robbery was opened at Westville Police Station and no arrests have been made.

The Pavilion Shopping Centre has not yet issued a response.
