Woman ‘kidnapped’ after exposing ANC councillor’s corruption

Kgabane says she got a chance to escape while her kidnappers were waiting for further instructions on what to do with her.

African National Congress (ANC) councillor Stenias Mashala and five other ANC branch members were arrested on charges of assault by Putfontein cops on Monday.

This after Rose Kgabane, a fellow ANC member, exposed Mashala’s alleged corrupt activities in the region, calling for him to be sacked from his position. The incident happened during a meeting held in Mayfield, Daveyton, which was called by Ward 69 residents on Sunday.

Kgabane and fellow residents accused Mashala of abusing his power and being arrogant.

It seems Mashala and five other members could not handle the accusations, so they allegedly assaulted her, reports Daily Sun. Just when she thought her troubles were over, Kgabane told the tabloid that she was later hijacked and kidnapped by the VIP Protection Unit of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police, who allegedly worked with the councillor on Sunday.

She told the publication that she was driving home from the Putfontein Police Station to open a case of assault on Sunday when a marked Ekurhuleni Metro cop van stopped in front of her.

The cops reportedly told her to get into their vehicle and told her she was under arrest for pointing a gun – a gun she said she didn’t have – at the councillor. After getting into the car, she was told she was being taken to the police station but got the shock of her life when the car took a different direction and headed towards Tshwane.

Kgabane said she spent the night in the metro cop car as they were waiting for further instructions on what to do with her. This is when she got the chance to escape.

Captain Pearl van Staad has reportedly confirmed the councillor was arrested and said cases of hijacking and kidnapping against the metro cops were being investigated.

The councillor and his party have refused to comment on the allegations.
