Facebook post of how Hooters can help you out of bad date goes viral

Many bars and restaurants are latching on to this trend to help people escape from dates that aren't going well.

A South African eatery has apparently latched onto a new global trend by bars and restaurants to craft escape plans for their patrons who find themselves on unsavoury dates, especially those set up from online dating services.

In a Facebook post, DA councillor Renaldo Gouws congratulates Hooters South Africa on its initiative of helping people out of a date “that isn’t going well”, along with a photograph of a poster he said was put up by Hooters explaining staff would assist a person to escape from the situation if they ordered a specific drink. The post is going viral with nearly 100 000 shares since he posted it on Wednesday.

Many social media users have commented on the post to say it is a good idea and there are more than 11 000 positive reactions to the post on Gouws’ Facebook page.

Some social media users did however raise concern that sharing the initiative on social media would defeat the purpose. However, according to the Good Things Guy, bars change the secret drinks regularly.

Towards the end of last year, many bars and restaurants throughout the world latched on to the trend, and even local government in Lincolnshire, a county in England, developed a poster campaign that advised people who felt unsafe on their dates to ask the bar’s staff for “Angela” in a bid to get help to escape the date, according to Quartz Media.
