Shivambu accuses Makhura of pulling a ‘resurrection’ stunt using ‘EFF member’

The premier claims to have welcomed a former EFF member to the ruling party.

Gauteng premier David Makhura was highly criticised on social media by actual Economic Freedom Fighters members for claiming a young EFF member had rejoined the African National Congress on Wednesday. In pictures shared by the Gauteng ANC, the premier can be seen happily helping the sad-looking young man take off his EFF T-shirt. When he changes into an ANC T-shirt, he appears to be smiling, seemingly happy about the decision he’d just taken.

“The African National Congress and the Chairperson @David_Makhura welcomes yet another young comrade from the EFF as he rejoins his political home,” wrote Gauteng ANC on Twitter.

But the red berets were not having it.

EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu accused Makhura of competing with pastor Alph Lukau of Alleluia Ministries, who made headlines for the infamous resurrection miracle. Shivambu questioned if the young man was an EFF member to begin with, and if he was even registered to vote.

“So those things of Ps Lukau are done by political leaders as well? Which branch did this guy come from? Is he registered to vote? Whilst ANC is busy with resurrections, we are busy winning millions of voters and will defeat this outgoing premier of Gauteng. It’s #OurLandAndJobsNow,” said Shivambu.

Even ANC head of elections Fikile Mbalula was amused by the “resurrection”.

EFF national chairperson Dali Mpofu accused the ANC of having lost the plot.

“These people have completely lost it…Panic mode..Backfiring train rides..Criminals on the election list..load shedding..Agrizzi..Spy allegations..Now stupid gimmicks! If EFF were to display those of us who left the ANC for the EFF, we would fill up 5 x FNB Stadiums!”

These were some of the comments on social media:
