Sandton Police Station commander Steven Brigadier Moodley issued a statement on Thursday following the arrest of three police members along with six other suspects, Sandton Chronicle reports.

Moodley’s statement was shared by the Sandton Community Policing Forum on Facebook.

“This was very embarrassing, but we will not tolerate corruption and criminality in the police. Well done to the Gauteng Provincial Trio Task Team police,” said Moodley.

Moodley described how at about 11:00 am on Thursday on the N1 North near the Rivonia Road offramp in Sandton, five suspects and two members of the police service from the Douglasdale Police Station were “arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of drugs and other crimes”.

“One unlicensed pistol and one unlicenced semi automatic rifle were recovered,” said Moodley.

“They planned to commit a robbery at the Fourways Mall and fled after the mall security arrested one suspect with another two unlicensed firearms. A third policeman from Douglasdale was also arrested at the mall. The fleeing suspects were stopped on the N1 near Sandton. A total of six suspects and three police members were arrested.”

The Sandton CPF further stated in a Facebook post, “Zero tolerance for corruption and full support for our upright men and women in blue who work so incredibly hard to fight crime. Corrupt law enforcement officers tarnish the reputation of the entire force and they betray their colleagues, their families, the public and their position of trust.”
