One of four robbers has been shot and killed following a shootout with security guards in Centurion, Pretoria, on Tuesday.
According to Hi Risk spokesperson Arthur Crewe, his security guards were responding to a robbery scene in Centurion at abouty 11am when they collided into another car that turned out to be a robbery getaway car.
The robbers attempted to flee and a small chase ensued, which ended quickly, according to Crewe.
Crewe said the alleged robbers started shooting leading to a shootout on the R101 Old Johannesburg Road, Rekord Centurion reported.
“The robbers surrendered after two of them were injured, and they were then arrested.”
Crewe said one of the shot robbers was fatally wounded.
He said cash, cellphones and other items were found in the getaway car.
“The men were reported to have robbed a well-known restaurant in Centurion.”
He said the intersection was cordoned off and motorists were advised to use alternative routes while the police and emergency services were on the scene.
ER24 confirmed that one man was killed and another critically injured.
Spokesperson Russel Meiring said medics were called out to a shooting.
“Upon arrival, paramedics found the body of a man lying a short distance away from his vehicle. The man was assessed and found to have sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead on the scene.
“A patient was found lying near his vehicle. Assessments showed that he was in a critical condition, having sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.”
Meiring said the the injured man was taken to hospital under police guard.
“Two other men were assessed and found to have escaped injury. Both were taken into custody by the local authorities.”
He said local authorities were on scene for further investigations after the pursuit.
