Residents worry after 2.4 magnitude earth tremor rocks Joburg on Thursday

South Africans were starting to worry about the unexpected weather patterns after another tremor hit some parts of Johannesburg in the early hours of Thursday morning. Though some residents did not know what had happened, they took to social media to ask other residents if the earth had just shaken below them, with most confirming their worst fears.

Gauteng Weather confirmed that it had recorded a 2.4 magnitude tremor just before 1am on Thursday morning near southern Randfontein.

“I felt it as well, it’s just a matter of time before we’re buried alive. They’re happening way too often,” said Andani Phathutshedzo, while Bruce Courie wrote: “These tremors are occurring quite often now. Is this a warning of things to come?”

These were some of the comments:

This is the fourth earth tremor to hit parts of Johannesburg this year. One happened at the beginning of this month, another one late in February, while the first tremor occurred in January.
