A victim of road rage recounted the events that led to another motorist allegedly punching his rental car.
The alleged incident took place on Sunday on the N1 South near the Beyers Naudé Drive off-ramp, Randburg Sun reported.
The victim found himself driving in the fast lane in front of a speeding Renault Megane.
“As I did not react quickly enough for the motorist to pass me immediately, he became extremely agitated and followed me towards the Beyers Naudé Drive off-ramp, where he blocked my path with his vehicle,” the victim said.
The victim said he was driving at a speed of 120km an hour before coming to an abrupt halt when the suspect stopped in front of him. According to victim, the motorist then exited his car and ran towards his vehicle.
“I tried to reverse away from him but he punched my bonnet, leaving a small dent. I managed to get some space between myself and him eventually. He carried on hurling abusive [words] while standing 15 metres in front of me.”
When the victim tried to drive around the suspect, the angered man allegedly threw another punch at the victim’s vehicle, leaving a large dent in the left rear door.
The victim reported the incident at Honeydew Police Station.
Police spokesperson Captain Bulan Muthan said the case would be investigated.
