PS4 consoles were originally going to have a bundled PS Eye

The opening shots of this war were heard when Sony unveiled the asking price for the PlayStation 4: $399, which is a whole $100 less than Microsoft’s Xbox One.

There’s been a lot of speculation as to why the Xbox One is $100 more expensive, but the general consensus is that the extra boodle goes towards covering the new and super obligatory Kinect sensor. Sony’s PlayStation 4, however, comes sans the PlayStation Eye – their answer to Kinect.

It’s fairly obvious that Sony isn’t quite as invested in their motion-sensing peripheral as Microsoft is with their own.

Speaking to Business Spectator, Sony Computer Entertainment’s CEO Andrew House admitted, “the vast majority of the audience that we speak to tells us that their primary wish is for the full controller interface and there’s not necessarily a huge emphasis being placed on camera interaction.”

Interestingly, new reports are suggesting that the PlayStation 4 was always intended to have a PS Eye bundled with it, and (here’s the kicker) Sony was still only going to charge $400. Apparently, Sony’s big bosses decided to trim the PS Eye in order to lessen the loss Sony will be making on each PS4 sold.
