Polokwane chosen as the Greenest Municipality in South Africa
The city will receive R3.5 million, which will be given through funding of infrastructure projects aimed at the protection of the environment.

Thomson announced the Polokwane Municipality in Limpopo as the Greenest Municipality in South Africa after winning the District and the Provincial chapters of the competition, reads a statement by the municipality, Review Online reports.
The event was held in Bloemfontein.
The statement explains that a panel of adjudicators spent sufficient time in each participating municipality, to ensure adequate coverage of all areas of the competition.
“Polokwane was assessed on areas that include waste management, energy efficiency and conservation, water management, landscaping, tree planting and beautification, public participation and community empowerment, leadership and institutional arrangements presentation,” it said.

Polokwane will receive R3.5 million, which will be given through funding of infrastructure projects aimed at the protection of the environment.
“The Executive Mayor Cllr Thembi Nkadimeng said the announcement only gives the municipality more work and pressure to ensure that the status is retained.”
Nkadimeng says the community can support the municipality by keeping the downtown area at the taxi ranks clean, as they will be embarking on cleaning campaigns and CBD revitalization projects.
