A 58-year-old police officer was shot and killed in the Stonebridge area earlier on Wednesday morning, the Phoenix Sun reports.
At this stage, the motive has not been established, however, authorities are currently at the scene.
According to a report issued by Reaction Unit South Africa, their team was called out to the scene after receiving several calls from residents in the area.
Upon arrival, they found that several law enforcement officers and ambulance services were at the scene. It is believed the victim was a captain at the Point police.

“At about 6am, while walking to Stonebridge Drive to meet his lift club, the officer was accosted by occupants of a red VW Polo, who shot him before fleeing the scene. Due to the extent of his injuries, the police officer died at the scene,” the report stated.
