Police have recovered the body of the 10-year-old boy who was attacked by what is thought to have been a crocodile in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
According to police spokesperson Captain Pottie Potgieter, the body was found about three kilometres from where the attack occurred.
This after hundreds of community members gathered at the scene where the search for the young boy took place at the Ngwaritsi River in Jim Brown Village on Sunday, Lowvelder reported.
It is alleged three children were swimming when one of them, the boy, was grabbed by what they thought was a crocodile. They then ran away and raised the alarm.
Potgieter said the victim and his friends had allegedly been herding cattle across a shallow portion of the river.
She added that the two friends, who witnessed the incident, said the boy had been naked when he was attacked.
“Crocodiles are travelling diversely to find the ideal place where there is more food available,” he said.
