Pictures of DJ Cleo hanging out with Brickz in prison spark outrage

Rapper and convicted rapist Sipho “Brickz” Ndlovu and his longtime friend DJ Cleo found themselves on the Twitter trends list after pictures of the two hanging out in prison during the weekend the weekend circulated on social media. DJ Cleo shared the pictures on Twitter and wrote: “We all run our own races, he fell along the way… but the race is not over”.

The DJ said he had partnered with correctional services and other stakeholders to contribute to the positive rehabilitation of inmates.

“If that’s deemed as condoning and supporting criminals then so be it. I refuse to entertain any negative spin to my good deeds,” said DJ Cleo.

Brickz was in 2017 found guilty of raping his then 16-year-old relative at his home in Ruimsig in 2013 and sentenced to 15 years in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court in Johannesburg.

During the conclusion of the presentencing proceedings, state prosecutor Pratisha Salie said there were no substantial circumstances to make the court deviate from handing down the minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment.

“She tried to look up to him as her father, and he should’ve seen this,” Salie said.

She added Brickz was seen as a celebrity and would most likely be able to continue with his life after serving his sentence, and be a role model and send the right message to South Africans who looked up to him.

Salie said rape was a serious matter and the court had to take into account that the victim was young and was not coping well after the incident.

However, now South Africans are furious at DJ Cleo for saying Brickz “fell along the way”.

Celebrities such as Boity also took to social media to criticise the DJ.

“To all the psychopaths in my mentions defending Cleo/Bricks, you can go jump off the highest cliff. Until some evil cunt rapes your little sister (or someone you love) you will continue being a raggedy ass rape apologist because you don’t give a flying fuck about the victim!! Tsek!” said a furious Boity.

However, some said there was nothing wrong with Cleo visiting his friend in prison.
