Hekpoort police on the West Rand arrested a 49-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm, Krugersdorp News reports.
The police were conducting a stop-and-search operation on the R24 near New Thorndale Road at 9am when they stopped a VW Polo with four occupants.
The driver said he did not know the occupants and had only agreed to transport them.
Police searched the vehicle and found a firearm in one of the men’s shoes. When they questioned him, he was unable to present a licence for the firearm, and he was arrested.
