Oval races doing the rounds in Gauteng

Oval racing will be alive, well and action-packed in Gauteng this Saturday.

> The Mahem Raceway in Pretoria will offer a full programme of racing, with seven competition disciplines in action.

The prime attraction should be races for V8 Sprint Cars, with more than ten of the wild machines facing the starter.

There will also be races for Pinto Saloons, 1660 Modified Saloons, Stock Rods, Ninja Midgets and Rookies.

Matters will be concluded with a Butcher’s Picnic for Bangers, where competitors crash into one another until only one can still move, to be declared the winner.

The gates will open at noon, with practice sessions for all classes during the afternoon.

Racing will commence at 6pm sharp.

Admission will cost R50 per adult and R30 for children between seven and 12 years.

Parking is plentiful and free. There will be food and drink on sale or you may take your own, and everybody is welcome to visit the pits on foot.

> The Rock Raceway in Boksburg will host round two of this year’s Cambees Midas Drift Championship, with more than 30 competitors expected.

Contenders will tackle the circuit one at a time or as pairs, with serious tyre-burning stuff all round.

The gates will open at 10am, with Qualifying at 2pm, and Tandem racing from 4pm.

Admission will cost R60 per adult and R30 per scholar, with parking free of charge.

Food and drink will be on sale and if it is cold, the Lapa area will be heated from dusk onwards.
