Outdoor acoustics with the Backyard Sessions

Performance venues these days sometimes seem to be few and far between, meaning that up-and-coming bands have limited platforms on which to showcase their talent.

This has led to a number of artists taking matters into their own hands, organising events whenever and wherever possible, whether it be using the venues available or creating their own.

The best performances are always those that take place in a small intimate venue where a group of friends can gather and enjoy the sounds. With this in mind, singer-songwriter Blake Roberts has founded the Backyard Sessions, which involve an intimate acoustic performance in a secret garden (revealed to guest applicants only), and which this Saturday, August 3.

The concept is to establish a picnic vibe, where people can come along with their blankets and a fabulous packed basket and enjoy a snuggly evening out, literally in someone’s backyard. This first event will feature Blake Roberts on his acoustic guitar, up close and personal, with a full PA system and some subtle lighting. More high-profile artists to follow in the near future.

Due to the nature of the venues, space is limited, which means those who wish to attend need to e-mail thebackyardsessions@gmail.com to secure their spot. Tickets cost R50 and full details regarding the location will be sent upon confirmation. Given that the event is taking place on a cold winter’s night, guests are advised to dress warmly.
