Oscar Trial breaks to find photos

Oscar Pistorius's murder trial adjourned for 10 minutes on Monday afternoon for a police photographer to find the unused photographs he took.

In the first session of cross-examination on the pictures he took, Pistorius’s counsel said he was told that Barend van Staden took numerous photographs of the “blade runner” from various angles.

Van Staden denied this and Roux promptly asked for the photographs he took that were not included in the albums, to be presented to court.

The court has seen pictures of Pistorius showing blood on his short, on a sock and down an arm taken after he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dead on February 14 2013.

He also told Roux that he was alone when he took his photographs until members of the provincial police task team arrived.

“You had undisturbed access to the scene it was only you and your camera?” said Roux, with Van Staden confirming.

Van Staden arrived at the house in Silver Woods estate in Pretoria at 4.50am the day Steenkamp was killed.

Pistorius is accused of the premeditated murder of Steenkamp.

He shot her through the closed door of his toilet, apparently believing she was an intruder.

In addition to the murder of Steenkamp, Pistorius is charged with contravening of the Firearms Control Act. He allegedly fired a shot from a Glock pistol under a table at a Johannesburg restaurant in January 2013.

On September 30, 2012 he allegedly shot through the open sunroof of a car with his 9mm pistol while driving with friends in Modderfontein.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Steenkamp’s mother June was in court for the afternoon session to begin, but left again discreetly when pictures of the scene of her daughter’s death were displayed on screens around the court.

She returned again during the adjournment, while Pistorius paced the dock, exam pad and pen in hand.
