Certain sporting events have the capacity to stir powerful emotions.
In South Africa when it comes to rugby, the big north-south derby between the Bulls and Stormers is such an occasion. And in Cape Town this afternoon, there will be plenty of emotion and excitement about the United Rugby Championship quarterfinal between the two old foes from the north and south.
The winners will advance to the semifinals, the losers will pack up their bags for another season and wonder, “what if?”

The Stormers are the competition defending champions and have beaten the Bulls in all five of their previous meetings in the URC. They will start as the big favourites.
More so after last week’s dress rehearsal in the Currie Cup, when Western Province beat the Bulls 31-7 at the same venue as today’s URC match and with the same coaches in charge. The only difference was that certain players were rested and the name of the competition was different.
So why would anything be different today? Well, it’s sport and on the day anything can happen. Bulls boss Jake White is desperate to beat the Stormers, but who would bet against the home team?
