The ANC presidential race has taken on a decidedly new dimension, with not just the pro and anti-Jacob Zuma factions slugging it out, but also a battle of the sexes aspect being added to the equation.
This comes as Human Settlements Minister and presidential hopeful Lindiwe Sisulu snubbed any idea of playing second fiddle to a man, come the ANC’s elective conference in December.
Sisulu revealed that she had been approached by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s camp to become his running mate and stand as deputy president.
But she told Ramaphosa’s people in no uncertain terms that she would like to be president and Cyril is welcome to be her deputy.
This is reminiscent of the sentiment expressed by Angelina Jolie a few years back, when she was offered the part of a Bond girl. Jolie retorted that she’d much rather play Bond.
Both ladies make a good point. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting for a female Bond.
Let’s hope the ANC is an easier nut to crack.
