The ‘stinking sellout’ will purge those like you, Madam Mayor

Jacob Zuma’s cronies and hangers-on don’t seem quite ready to go quietly into the dark night of political oblivion following his ouster as ANC president at the organisation’s national elective conference last year and his subsequent “recall” from the office of state president.

Ace Magashule, former Free State premier and now ANC secretary-general, and Supra Mahumapelo, ousted premier of North West, appear to be determined to hold on to the levers of power – by proxy – in their home provinces.

In KwaZulu-Natal, a movement is apparently growing to have Zuma head a breakaway political party – something Zuma said he would never do.

The latest outburst of a pro-Zuma comrade came from Dihlabeng mayor Lindiwe Kambule Makhalema, who used an ANC members’ Facebook page to post the word “Ramaphosa” in response to someone asking the group to name the “biggest stinking sellout you know…”

Makhalema, a Magashule ally, has been accused of meddling in government projects and is hardly a paragon of virtue. However, her outburst shows her to be politically childish.

By having a go at Ramaphosa in public, she will, no doubt, have made herself a target, and an obvious one, for his “clean-up” campaign within the ANC.

Not a smart move, Madam Mayor.
