Let survivor Solly get on with job

If you are to believe a confident Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga, then he’s going nowhere.

Last week, Msimanga survived a second motion of no confidence against him.

In the latest attempt to remove him, Msimanga survived by 18 votes after the ANC brought a motion of no confidence against him. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) abstained from the vote, while seven ANC councillors were absent from the council meeting.

In August, Msimanga came out smiling after the EFF’s motion of no confidence was dismissed due to technical errors.

“It has actually strengthened my resolve,” said Msimanga. “The ANC are trying to defocus me and that is something I am not going to dwell on.”

Tshwane certainly has a number of issues to sort out if it is to become a better city for all and Msimanga and his councillors face many problems.

He will be the first to admit it, but having to deal with constant attempts to what he terms “derailing him” can’t make it any easier in the hot seat.

Msimanga says he has a job to do. Perhaps it is time he is left alone to do just that.
