We need Khoza in our politics

All of the potential members – according to what Khoza told the media – come from outside the pale of the existing Big Three political parties.


One way of looking at expelled ANC MP Dr Makhosi Khoza’s plans to amalgamate small parties and disaffected DA, EFF and ANC members into a new political grouping, is that it looks like a coalition of the wounded.

So, it’s tempting to dismiss them as insignificant in the bigger South African political scheme.

There have been breakaway parties from the ANC which – with the exception of the EFF – have not really provided the ruling party with meaningful opposition in terms of numbers.

Yet, there has always been something different about Khoza.

She was different in ANC ranks for the way she stood up against corruption. She’s been different, too, in refusing to cross the floor to other, established, parties.

Her vision and her outspoken ways probably do not sit well with some of those established parties.

And that is exactly why we need Makhosi Khoza – and why we need her new political enterprise to succeed.

She is beholden to no one, has no holy cows when she lets rip. We need that strong voice in our politics.
