‘Col’ Molefe: let the force be with union

Brian Molefe seems to have a talent for bouncing from one outrageous situation to another without missing a step.

Now, he has donned the uniform of a colonel in the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) in order to render “specialised services” in connection with the auditing of military accounts.

Leaving aside the question about whether allowing Molefe to audit anything is akin to appointing a poacher as game keeper, it seems that his comrades in the ANC – specifically the Zuma part of the ANC– are determined to look after him after his removal from parastatal power giant Eskom.

Now that he looks like losing his inflated R30-million pension payout from Eskom, the SANDF has been roped in to supply him with a financial parachute.

The SANDF is reportedly paying him about R60 000 a month, despite the fact that he is only an honorary colonel and not entitled to any benefits.

The SA National Defence Union has said it will lay charges against those who allowed the allegedly illegal appointment to take place.

We support the union in this because we cannot continue to allow our country’s state resources to be used on those people who are part of President Jacob Zuma’s network.
