Julius Malema reveals his true colours, a reflection of his own insecurities

Sometimes, when people toss around cheap, ill-thought-out insults, it can, ironically, reveal more about themselves than it does about their target.

That, we would suggest, is the case with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema in his intemperate attack on both the courts and the department of justice.

In response to the department of justice and correctional services upbraiding him over his criticism of a magistrate, Juju erupted: “You can Voetsek small bedwetting boys (sic).”

That’s just the sort of childish comment you might expect from a … small boy, bedwetting or otherwise.

Yet, sadly, it is par for the course for Malema, whose rabble-rousing tongue is used repeatedly to either deflect attention from his own, or the EFF’s failings, or to fire up the revolutionary zeal in the hearts of his “fighters”.

As he flip-flops through ideological postures quicker than an Olympic gymnast, Malema goes where he thinks the emotions are… whether that be in supporting migrants and decrying xenophobia, or taking under his political blanket those he once vilified, such as Jacob Zuma and disgraced former public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

Yet, in his attack on the judiciary – the people who can hold him accountable – he shows that he is a tinpot dictator.
