Will the current form of the GNU survive?
The deadlock over the budget has left the GNU frayed.
While the tension between the ANC and the DA builds, neither party is willing to pull the trigger on the DA’s involvement in the coalition.
ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula said the party has “not taken a position about any political party in the GNU and that includes the DA”. He, however, questioned whether the DA wants to be part of the GNU.
The DA has so far indicated that it is not willing to leave the GNU voluntarily. It also said it won’t let the ANC “dictate our policy direction”.
