One Man Show to continue winning ways

Champion jockey Anthony Delpech has a fine association with Dean Kannemeyer-trained One Man Show and the combination has a bright chance to make it three wins in row today when switching to Greyville and contesting Race 7 a MR 86 Handicap over 2000m.

This gelding has fared well since winning decisively over 1900m at Greyville Polytrack and missing the frame only once in his five subsequent runs – and that unplaced run over 2400m at Scottsville can be excused as he was unfortunately balked in the early and latter stages of the race.

Partnered by Delpech again the gelding posted a gutsy double over the same course and distance. With his confidence firmly regained, the four-time winner should complete the hat-trick.

However, he will have to be on guard against his stablemate Chrome Blue with in-form Warren Kennedy aboard. This six-year-old snatched victory in his penultimate outing but failed to reproduce that run next time when slow out and never a threat.

The gelding deserves respect as he comes off a three-month break and could be primed and ready.

Another who returns after a three-month layoff and must come into the reckoning is Andre Nel-trained Liquid Rainbow with Gareth Wright up. The four-year-old has held form well in his last five outings with Wright up – winning three times and a runner-up twice.

The gelding’s last run was a stout effort as he stayed on gamely in a close win over 1900m at Greyville.

Best of the others is another Kannemeyer runner Pure Logic (Jarred Samuel) who has been threatening another win since exiting the maiden ranks decisively.

This four-year-old was not disgraced last time when third over 2000m at Greyville and with 52kg bottom-weight he could spring a surprise.

Two to follow in the minor events are Gavin van Zyl-trained Alraune in Race 4 and Dennis Bosch-trained Varbration in Race 6.

Alraune comes off a promising close second at the Greyville Polytrack over 1400m and with the advantage of a good inside draw she could come to light this time in a maiden contest for three-year-old fillies over the same distance. She could be followed home by Sweet Treat, Missy J and Imagine That.

Four-time winner Varbration with top-flight Anton Marcus up looks the one to beat in a 1000m MR 79 Handicap.

The six-year-old steps down in class after finishing an encouraging third over 1000m at Greyville Polytrack and with a favourable inside draw this time the gelding should be in the winner’s enclosure. The pick of the others are Cuvara, Ryker and Northern Rebel.
