Old and the new readying for weekend assault on Redstar Raceway

The Red Star Raceway near Delmas will host a round of the 2019 inland racing series this Saturday, with 10 four-wheeler categories set to face the starter.

Heading up proceedings will be two races for the Bridgestone BMW owners’ club brigade. Frontrunners should include Jan Evertsteyn (Bavaria 0.0% BMW E46 M3), Andreas Meier (#Trainedamateurs BMW E36 STC), Mike Grobler (Mayfair Gearbox BMW E36 330i), Renier Smith (#Trainedprofessionals BMW M3), Nek Makris (BMW 328i Turbo), Pieter Lombard (SMS Alert BMW M3) and Alan Hilligenn BMW E36 328i).

Top contenders in the races for Universal Health Pre-1980 Historic Saloon Cars should be Jannie van Rooyen (VW Scirocco), Johann Smith (SPS Mazda Capella), Stuart Konig (VW Scirocco), Johann Barnard (Industrial Mining Ford Capri), Alan Green (Ford Escort Mk 1), Andre ten Napel (TNMC Medical Scirocco) and Rene van Rensburg (SV Tech Ford Escort Mk 11).

Running in front of the tin tops will be the Pre-1990 Sports and GT Cars of Fred Konig (Porsche RSR), Ray Cornelissen (Glashoff TVR Tuscan), Stefan Snyders (Stenton Porsche RSR) and Stefan Puschavez (M1 Equipment Porsche RSR).

The Midvaal Historic should see drivers like Deon van Vuuren (Hoosier Mazda R100), Brendon Parker (Blitz Spares Datsun GX Coupe), Rene van Rensburg (SV Tech Ford Escort), Ken Price (KPR Toyota SR5 Coupe), Franz Jensen (Jensen Towing Datsun 1200), Peder Jensen (Jensen Towing Datsun 1200) and Ian Kilburn (Collectible Datsun CX Coupe) at the front end.

Keagan Pottas (AIPM Honda CRX Turbo) should be the man to beat in the Motul Clubmans races, chased by people like Dirk Lawrence (JDM Tuning Honda Ballade), Louis Cloete (AMS Tuning VW Beetle), Johan van der Vyver (Devlan Subaru WRX), Shaun Crous (Ancro Building VW Turbo), Ralph Kernes (Big Boss Auto Renault Clio) and Andre Diedericks (Elftrans Mini JCW).

Jeffrey Kruger (Universal Health Birkin) and Thomas Falkiner (Adaptive Resources Taylon) should fight for victories in the Lotus Challenge races, with others to watch being Clive Wilmot (Birkin Toyota), Mackie Adlem (Adlem Auto Birkin), Brad Benningfield (General Energy Caterham), Andre Human (Adlem Auto Birkin), Fred Alberts (My Piggy Bank Birkin) and Rudi Barnard (Barneys Birkin).

Single-seater enthusiasts will get two Monoposto races, with frontrunners like Damien Archer (Advanced Wound Care Ray 92), Corrie le Roux (Pigments Kawasaki Formula M), Koos Pothumus (Suzuki Formula M), Duncan Cloete (Serr Synergy Kawasaki Formula M) and Hayden Archer (Advanced Wound Care Rhema 2).

The day’s closest racing should come from the Liqui Moly Inex Legend crowd, with Justin Robertson (Big Boss Auto Legend), Charl Roux (Rubro Legend), Jagger Robertson (Liqui Moly Legend), Richard van Heerde (Browndeck Legend), Ian Upton (RU Legend) and Chris Hoy (Ahoy Legend) among the frontrunners.

The event’s only handicap races will be two Charlies Superspar Pursuit Series heats, with possible podium takers being Bert van Aarle (Lotus Elite), Kola de Klerk (Nissan 300 ZX), Werner Hartzenberg (Aircooled Wonders Porsche 928), Denis McBeath (Mpiti Sport), Richard Tudor-Owen (Flower-Pac Mercedes 190E) and Rob Clark (Containerforce Citroen).

The day will end with a one-hour endurance race for sports and saloon cars. Top contenders must include Stefan Snyders (Stenton Porsche RSR), Jeffrey Kruger (Universal Health Birkin), Andre Human (Adlem Auto Birkin), Hubi von Moltke (Mercedes 280 CE), Stefan Puschavez (M1 Equipment Porsche RSR) and David Jermy (Beauty Factory Taylon).

The Red Star Raceway gates will open at 7 am, with racing to commence at 8.45 am. Admission will cost R50 per adult, with kids under 12 free. Food and drink will be on sale or you may take your own. Parking is free and plentiful. To find out more, call Shelly-Ann at 082 468 9200.
