NFP calls on Sascoc to defend Caster Semenya

The National Freedom Party has called on Sascoc and all other national federations in SA to stand firm in fighting the against the 'sexist and racial attack'.

The National Freedom Party (NFP) has slammed action by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to place new regulations, which they deem are “set to try and sidetrack” South African athlete Caster Semenya.

“We view the IAAF’s decision as a direct wrestle against Semenya’s naturally physique. As the party, we 100% stand by Caster Semenya as one of the best athletes who managed to lift the flag of South Africa and the entire continent of Africa high in all performances,” NFP spokesperson Sabelo Sigudu said in a statement released today.

“We are aware that they are trying by all means to bring down Caster Semenya through nonsensical rules. However, we advise Caster not to allow such to demoralise her, as South Africa is rallying behind her.”

The NFP has called on the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) and all other National Federations in South Africa to stand firm in fighting against the sexist and racial attack aimed at Semenya.

The party feels that, as Sascoc’s primary responsibility is to defend any violations of athletes’ rights, the mum action of Sascoc in this matter should not be tolerated.

“We are worried and we strongly condemn their silent in this matter. [Sascoc] should be the ones defending [Semenya], but they have chosen to be non-participants,” said Sigudu.
