The retired Manchester United manager told those close to him he hopes to be back in his seat at Old Trafford for the start of the season in August.
A source said: “Everyone knows Sir Alex is a winner and this was one battle he was never going to lose.
“The prognosis is extremely promising and it’ll only be a matter of time before he’s back at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’. Meanwhile he can put his feet up and enjoy the World Cup.”
Fergie was placed in an induced coma at Salford Royal Hospital on May 5 after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
A football fanatic through and through, UK paper The Sun reported that his first words when he came round were: “How did Doncaster get on today?”
He was referring to his son Darren’s team, who lost 1-0 to Wigan as Sir Alex was in the operating theatre.
