The 30-year-old only signed a three-year deal with Frankfurt on Friday after a hasty exit from Spanish club Las Palmas, who the Ghana international left citing ‘personal reasons’.
Boateng has linked up with Frankfurt head coach Niko Kovac, 45, after they were team-mates at Hertha Berlin more than a decade ago.
Despite just one training session with his new club, the attacking midfielder came on for the final 25 minutes of the goalless draw at Freiburg, set up a few attacks and had a couple of chances.
“A lot has happened in the last few days, but there were a lot of positives to take,” Boateng told Sky.
“It was hard to play after just one training session.
“There are a few nationalities in the squad, so communicating is hard at times, but the lads are all trying to do what the coach has outlined.
“I hope there will be a few more goals next week.”
Freiburg had a goal disallowed in the first half, but the video assistant referee (VAR) ruled out Tim Kleindienst’s effort after spotting a team-mate was offside when the shot was taken.
The VAR is being trialled for the first time in the German top flight this season.
The system made its debut on Friday in awarding a penalty to Bayern Munich, which Robert Lewandowski converted in the defending champions’ 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the opening match.
Boateng, the half-brother of Bayern’s Germany international Jerome Boateng, last played in the Bundesliga in May 2015.
His previous German club Schalke suspended him, along with Germany international Sidney Sam, for the final two games of the 2014/15 season when his attitude was questioned by then-director of sport Holger Heldt.
Boateng scored 10 goals in 28 La Liga appearances for Las Palmas last season and found new employment quickly after abruptly quitting the Spanish side last Wednesday to be closer to his family, who live in Milan.
“My wife opened a bottle of champagne when she heard I’d signed for Frankfurt,” added Boateng.
“We’ll be looking for a house now and they’ll be moving here soon.”
Later on Sunday, Borussia Moenchengladbach beat Cologne 1-0 in the Rhineland derby as Swiss defender Nico Elvedi, 20, netted his first Bundesliga goal just after the break.
