Donald Trump announces a ‘Space Force’ as sixth US military branch

Trump says that for the US to be safe, it needs to dominate space.

It’s been a busy week for Donald Trump.

Not only has he blamed the democrats for his own administration’s policy of family separation at the border, the US president has announced plans for another $200 billion worth of tariffs against China, should that nation not lift their countertariffs.

While a trade war looms larger than ever and the backlash over the treatment of immigrant continues to rages, Trump has found time to announce a ‘Space Force’ as the US military’s sixth branch. Yes, really.

“I’m hereby directing the department of defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish a Space Force as the sixth branch of the armed forces,” Trump said.

“We are going to have the Air Force, and we are going to have the Space Force, separate, but equal,” he added.

Details about the role and timing of any new space force were not immediately clear, but for it to become the sixth branch of the American military, it would require Congressional approval to take effect.

“When it comes to defending America, it is not enough to merely have an American presence in space, we must have American dominance in space,” Trump said. No Darth Vader music was playing in the background as he made this announcement. We feel he missed a trick.
