Man accused of beating 4-year-old to death after she spilled juice on his XBox

The accused, a 19-year-old Chicago man, is currently in prison with bail set at $5 million.

Nineteen-year-old Johnathan Fair, of Waukegan, Chicago, allegedly beat his girlfriend’s daughter to death after she spilt juice on his Xbox gaming console, Associated Press reports.

Fair was babysitting 4-year-old Skylar Mende on December 13 when the fatal beating occurred. Fair took Skylar to a hospital, claiming she had fallen. She succumbed to her injuries days later after surgery to relieve swelling of her brain could not save her, according to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The young girl’s mother was not at home at the time of the alleged incident, according to Waukegan police.

A grand jury charged Fair with four counts of first-degree murder. He was initially charged with aggravated battery. Fair is currently behind bars, with bail set at $5 million.

Fair’s attorney stressed his client was innocent until proven guilty and said he would be acquitted “when the facts come out”.
