Metro cop shot in the face
The officer’s colleague returned fire, but the suspects managed to escape.

A Johannesburg Metro Police Department officer was seriously injured after a suspect shot him on Sunday evening, January 22, on the West Rand, Roodepoort Record reports.
According to metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, two officers on patrol spotted a bakkie with suspected stolen goods on the back while driving on the R41 (Randfontein Road).

Close to the intersection with Corlett Avenue, they managed to pull the bakkie over, but when one of the officers approached the bakkie, one suspect opened fire and shot him through his jaw. The officer’s colleague returned fire, but the suspects managed to escape.
No arrests had been made, and investigations are under way.
