One man was killed and a second victim escaped with minor injuries in a shooting incident on the R550 in the south of Johannesburg on Wednesday afternoon.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson Max Cohen said paramedics responded to reports of the shooting incident at around 3.30pm on Wednesday and found a large police presence on the scene.
“It was reported that the victim and his friend were told to meet a man with regard to a vehicle that was advertised on a well-known secondhand website in Alberton,” said Cohen.
“They arrived at the location and waited for a prolonged period. They were then phoned by the suspects and told to proceed to a second location. Upon their arrival the victim and his friend were shot at several times.”
Cohen said the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and on assessment showed no signs of life.
“He was declared dead on the scene.”

The victim’s friend escaped with only minor injuries and was severely traumatised.
“The patient was treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby facility for further management,” said Cohen.
He said police were on the scene to conduct a full crime scene investigation.
“The perpetrators are still at large.”
Cohen said Emer-G-Med urged members of the public to be extremely vigilant and cautious when meeting an unknown person to buy or sell used items.
“Preferably meet in a busy shopping centre or another public place with security cameras. Try not to carry a large sum of money, rather pay by EFT, PayPal or a similar method,” he concluded.
