The 45-year-old allegedly raped the woman several times and forced her to perform sexual acts with a dog.
The court will receive a report from an expert after the man was put under psychiatric evaluation.
On 16 January, the man’s family lodged an application for an evaluation to determine whether he was mentally fit to stand trial and requested the court to send him to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.
Prosecutor Solly Leballo opposed the application and said that faking mental instability is one of the strategies used by suspects to avoid being prosecuted.
The man also abandoned his bail hearing in November last year after members of the community took to street to demonstrate their support for the woman.
